Horse and Arena Safety

Horses are large, strong animals and can injure people quickly, even when they are calm. Always tie with a quick-release knot or a breakaway setup, never wrap a lead rope around your hand, and stay out of the kick zone when fitting boots or a fly mask.

Insecticides and repellents are chemical products. Read and follow the label exactly, keep them away from eyes, nostrils, open wounds and feed, store them out of reach of children and dogs, and stop using any product that causes skin irritation. Check with your veterinarian before using any product on a pregnant mare, a foal or a horse with a medical condition.

Protective boots and fly masks must fit correctly and be checked daily. A mask or boot that slips, rubs or traps debris can cause sores or eye injury. Remove fly masks at night unless your vet advises otherwise.
